Information, Medium & Society – The Publishing Studies Research Network is brought together by a shared interest in investigating publishing practices as distinctive modes of social knowledge production. We seek to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries. As a Research Network, we are defined by our scope and concerns and motivated to build strategies for action framed by our shared themes and tensions.

We are offering a blended conference format with session types explicitly designed to make the most of both online and in-person social knowledge processes.

For over 30 years, Common Ground has invested in developing technologies that seek to break down barriers to access to forums of scholarly communication. In each phase, we’ve leveraged our self-built media platforms to create spaces for interdisciplinary dialogue before it was in vogue; connecting international voices as disciplines too often stayed in national silos; supported an agenda of equality with pathways for diverse voices.
And now we propose another kind of intervention -- a scholarly communication infrastructure for a blended future.
With this step-by-step guide, we hope to walk you through the new phases pre/during/post-conference to ensure you have a productive online experience.
We are working to change the way in which knowledge is produced, validated, and shared within member-based Research Networks.
The Information, Medium, and Society: Journal of Publishing Studies and Book Imprint offer pathways to transform your presentation into formal research objects. We also support a number of affordable Open Access pathways to allow maximum flexibility to support principles of open research, in a sustainable manner.

Audience Passes are for those who want to benefit from the content, connect with presenters, and join the discussion -- in-person blended and online only. You'll gain access to all headline presentations: welcome addresses, plenary addresses, and curated thematic content -- either live or from any place and in your own time. And you'll be able to participate in innovative blended formats -- Talking Circles, Garden Conversations -- using the best of in-person and online capacities, and on a human scale.
We welcome the submission of proposals at any time of the year. All proposals will be reviewed within two to four weeks of submission.
You do not need to commit to either an In-Person Blended or Online Only presentation format at the time of submission. You can present both ways if you register In-Person Blended or change your mode of the presentation if your preferences change.
